How AI Is Changing Education and What Schools Need to Do Next

Where AI in Schools Is Actually Making a Difference

The Gallup-Walton Family Foundation study put a number on the most immediate benefit. Teachers who use AI tools at least weekly save an average of 5.9 hours per week, adding up to roughly six weeks of reclaimed time across a school year. That time savings shows up most in lesson planning, drafting parent communications, and grading support, the administrative load that has long fed teacher burnout and, in many districts, attrition. A separate breakdown found that a majority of teachers report AI saving them time on nearly every category of task they were asked about, from producing educational materials to analyzing patterns in student learning.
